What to expect

If you are an individual case:

Every case is different, although we apply the following basic principles:

  • A lengthy telephone call to determine if we are the appropriate company for you, discuss case details and provide advice on the phone prior to assessment. If you require another specialist, we can usually provide you with details.
  • A responsive service, we can normally book you in the same week.
  • We emphasise a team approach, and work closely / jointly with physiotherapsists, occupational therapists, neuro-psychologists and dieticians as appropriate. Meetings with the team to discuss your progress are often beneficial.
  • Onward referral to other neuro specialists is sometimes appropriate and we can organise this for you with your consent. We have excellent contacts within the field of neuro-rehabilitation.
  • We usually take 2 sessions to assess you (this can vary depending on the complexity of the case) and then provide a trial period of therapy, followed by re-assessment. This ensures that you are happy with the treatment, it is working for you and that money is well spent.
  • Assessment involves taking a case history and administering various formal and informal tests. The session can last any time up to one-and-a-half hours.
  • You will be provided with a copy of the detailed report written after the initial consultation.
  • Treatment aims to be as functional and meaningful to you as possible.
  • We emphasise the importance of independent working at Linguistic Resolutions. You will be provided with work to carry out between sessions.
  • We always aim to train family members / carers / support workers who work closely with you. This can be done informally throughout treatment or more formally through participation in Training Days (often designed for support workers).

NHS vs Private Therapy

Every individual with communication and/or swallowing difficulties is entitled to a free (NHS) Speech and Language service. This is emphasised by Linguistic Resolutions.

At the same time, we are aware that due to funding and staffing issues in some NHS departments, clients may have to wait long periods of time for an initial assessment. Linguistic Resolutions is able to provide an intermediate service until you are able to see your local NHS Speech & Language Therapy department. At this point, we will provide a detailed handover to the NHS and/or continue to support you as necessary.

On the other hand, you may feel you have not received enough intensive therapy or that you have been discharged too early from the NHS. We can provide assessment and our opinions on this.

If you are an NHS Department:

We can offer short term contracts to assist cutting down waiting lists and to cover periods of staff annual / sick leave.

This means you donít have to deal with locum agencies. References are available from NHS departments who have used Linguistic Resolutions for this purpose. Please contact us for further information.

If you are a Case Manager or a Solicitor:

We are experienced in medico-legal work, but prefer to offer clients a rehabilitation program rather than providing Expert Witness Reports / Assessments. Please contact us to discuss this more.

Linguistic Resolutions has worked with a number of solicitors and case managers and advocates joint working.

You may be looking for a Speech and Language Therapist or a whole team. Either way, Sally is able to help you. Please see her other website www.alliedneurotherapy.co.uk for more information about whole team options.
