Daisy Parkes-Smith
SPECIALIST SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPIST (NEUROLOGY)
Daisy holds an MSc in Speech and Language Therapy and a BA Hons in Linguistics from the University of Reading. She has 12 years of experience of working with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders in an NHS acute setting. Daisy has worked with patients with progressive neurological conditions including Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis and Muscular Dystrophy as well as conditions such as stroke and traumatic brain injury. Daisy works as a Band 8a acute team lead within an NHS Trust and runs Videofluoroscopy and FEES clinics.
Daisy has a wealth of experience working alongside a wide MDT to support people with communication and swallowing disorders. This involves regular joint working, mental capacity assessments, best interests meetings and supporting people with complex decision making.
Another of Daisy’s passions is upskilling and teaching other SLTs in the fields of dysphagia, tracheostomy care and instrumental swallow assessments to enable them to develop their skills further. Daisy has also delivered numerous training packages to the wider MDT on subjects including communication support, eating and drinking with acknowledged risk of aspiration (EDAR) and IDDSI.
