Beth Yerbury

AAC SPECIALIST PAEDIATRIC SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST

Beth has been working as a Speech and Language Therapist since qualifying with an MSc in Speech and Language Science from University College London in 2010.  Throughout her career Beth been developing specialisms in working with children and young adults who have a range of complex needs, Paediatric Acquired Brain Injury and Down syndrome.  Prior to becoming a Speech and Language Therapist Beth completed a degree in Early Years and worked in a variety of assistant roles, which gives her a unique perspective when supporting staff and families across a range of settings.

Beth has a specialist interest in working with children who require the use of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) and has recently been involved in the creation of an Assistive Technology Service within The Children’s Trust in Tadworth, Surrey.  She has extensive experience of working with children who require both low and high tech methods of AAC for communication, having worked in multiple posts within the NHS, the charity sector and within private and not-for-profit services.  Beth is particularly passionate about working with children with limited physical access who require a solution focussed approach to enable them to access technology in functional ways.

Beth enjoys supporting children in the community, both within the home and within Early Years and school settings, and she loves training others including working closely with families.  Through working within inpatient paediatric neuro-rehabilitation Beth has also developed strong skills in multidisciplinary working and thoroughly enjoys being part of the whole team around the child.

In addition to clinical work Beth has presented at both national and international conferences, as well as lecturing at University College London as part of the Masters course in Speech and Language Science.  In her spare time she is also passionate about supporting the children’s charity Dreamflight, and has been involved in raising money and taking part in a trip to enable children with a range of medical and life limiting conditions to go on a dream holiday to Florida.
