Joanna Lurati

Specialist speech and language Therapist (neurology)

Jo has been working as a Speech and Language Therapist since qualifying with a BMedSci in Speech Science from the University of Sheffield.  Throughout her career she has been developing her specialism within Neurology and Acquired Brain Injury with over 14 years’ experience. She has driven SLT intervention within a variety of inter-disciplinary teams across inpatient, outpatient and community rehabilitation, offering bespoke therapy as a key component of patient-centred care.

Jo has a special interest in both ­­­­PDOC and Cognitive Communication Disorders and works across both Adult and Paediatric caseloads. Tailoring therapy programmes specifically to the needs of each client and their family, Jo is particularly passionate in advocating clients’ successful return to their setting, be it home, school, work or long-term residential care. She works with families and staff to support children/ adults with functional rehabilitation back to their daily lives and activities after brain injury.

Jo has been involved in the creation and delivery of training materials and programmes for fellow SLTs/ AHPs, medical students/ staff and rehabilitation assistants in a variety of clinical settings. Alongside clinical work Jo guest-lectures at the Universities of Sheffield and Nottingham, to Under-Graduate and Masters students. She enjoys delivering training/ education sessions for carers, parents and key individuals within a client’s support network and has presented at National Conferences.

Whether it’s through play, fun and ‘favourite things’ with her paediatric caseload, or in combination with motivating topics, interests and enjoyment with adults, Jo’s thorough, dedicated and adaptive therapy approach yields excellent results.
